| »The Secret of Macmalics« is a project by which Association Ruta endeavours to ecologically educate children and youth and direct them to protect the nature and traditions of their homeland. Everywhere on the island Cres there are legends about the dwarf - Macmalic. With this picture book we are reviving narration from Tramuntana highland, the northern end of the island, where he is called – Masmalic, a forest ghost. Mingling and working together during the two years of the project’s duration the children have, by felting from abandoned sheep wool, made an entire tribe of Masmalics, followed by brooches, tapestries and plenty of red caps … Behind every woolen detail, which we made with a lot of curiosity and love, springs the teaching of Masmalics: Honour the nature and guard it for your grandchildren! |
